This post reflects my honest opinion based on my experience as a small business owner and online course designer & strategist.
As an online course creator and digital strategist, I’m all about helping people realize their passive income dreams and make money in their sleep.
Creating and launching online courses is my specialty, but there are actually a TON of ways to earn a little (or a lot of!) extra income by creating digital products that sell.
I’ve generated a giant list of ideas to help you get the ball rolling! There’s a little something for everyone on this list, no matter what talents you have or which niche you serve. Seriously, everyone (yes, you!) has skills and knowledge they can share with someone else.
I always like to remind people: you don’t have to be THE expert on something! You just have to know enough about something to teach someone else who isn’t on your level yet.
A digital product is anything that doesn’t exist as a physical product you could hold in your hands or buy at the store.
Basically, think of all those things you buy on the internet and gain immediate access to download or start using immediately. Those are digital products!
In short, creating and selling a digital product can help scale your business to help more people and make more money than you’d be able to if you limit yourself to one-on-one client work.
Let’s be honest – you can only work so many hours and take on so many clients! No matter what your rates are, client work is an exchange of your time for clients’ money.
On the other hand, you invest time in making a digital product once, then make money every single time someone buys it for months…or even years.
Maybe you’re at the absolute max for your client load and are turning people away. It’s a good problem to have, but it can be a total bummer to send away clients you’d really like to work with.
Instead of putting people on a waitlist or sending them away, you could create a digital product to help them today.
Often, there are people who would love to work with you or learn what you do, but they’re not ready to dedicate time and money to one-on-one services. Maybe they only need a quick consultation on one aspect of what you do, like a DIY branding workbook or pre-launch checklist.
Digital products expand your reach to people who can benefit from your expertise but might not even fill out your contact form otherwise!
Do you have passive income dreams but aren’t sure where to start? It might seem overwhelming to come up with that perfect idea, but I’ve got you! I’ve created a list of digital products that sell in 2023.
Streamlining something you do into a template offers a valuable shortcut to people in a hurry or who want professional-looking results without investing in custom work. You can create templates for:
Many of the strategies you already use in your business and offer to clients can be turned into digital products. For example:
Most people have a few go-to systems to keep everything in their life and business on track – help someone skip having to figure it out on their own!
Anything people need help writing can be made easier with a go-to guide on how to write, structure, and effectively use copy in their businesses.
If creating an online course isn’t your thing, try writing an ebook!
Custom design isn’t within everyone’s budget, but not everyone has the skills to design their own visuals.
Even in the digital age, there are some things people prefer to print, and purchasing something premade saves a TON of time.
If you have a camera and editing know-how, you can be a huge help to people who aren’t photographers!
Once you create some standalone products, sell groups of products that go together. For instance, if you’re a social media manager, you could bundle Canva templates for Instagram, a content calendar system, and a mini-course on how to film reels.
If you have a website and email list, launch these products to your subscribers. You can host and sell them from your website or a digital platform like ThriveCart, Karta, or Kajabi. If you’re just getting started, you might want to try out an online marketplace, like Udemy (for online courses), Etsy (for digital downloads and printables), or Teachers Pay Teachers (for educational products).
I hope this list of has gotten the creative juices flowing and given you some ideas to run with. Remember, you’ve got this! You already have skills and knowledge that you can share with others – and create passive income in the process. It’s just a matter of choosing the product you’d like to develop and setting aside the time to make it happen.
